Contrary to popular belief, the Stonewall riots were initiated by trans women of colour, and not by ‘gay men and transvestites’ as the white male-centred LGBT movement would like us to believe.

Most middle-class men who frequented gay bars were reluctant to act against it, because doing so would mean outing themselves, and consequently losing their jobs, friends and families.

Many of those at Stonewall, by contrast, had very little left to lose. And this is precisely because they were trans*, and particularly trans* people of colour.

This is just one example of how vital women have been to the LGBTQ+ rights movement, and the fact that women’s achievements in this regard are continually erased is nothing short of disgusting.
